Day 7 - Dai Lanh Beach to Quy Nhon

Today we cycled 90 km (55 miles).

A short transfer out of town past the Po Nagar Cham towers brought us to a high point. From then on our ride was predominantly flat.

Warm but manageable.

These blue wooden boats are found across Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Some of them had the feel of pirate galleons!
However, we rarely saw functioning sails.

However, most would have been sail boats back in the 40's, but these could not compete with diesel-driven fishing vessels and the situation was reversed by '60s.

We set off early in the morning, passing the Po Nagar Cham towers with a ride on to the fishing village and beach of Dai Lanh where we stopped for lunch.
This was followed by a coastal coach ride towards Tuy Hoa and on to our destination of Quy Nhon.

Returning from school.

Drying rice on the concrete roads.
Some big trucks would trundle past us. However, I imagine that they would remain respectful of the drying crop.

Paddy prior to winnowing.

Charcoal workers

Everyone was working.
This looked like a covered floating market, though unpopulated when we passed.

Many of the houses were very ornate with over-the-top balustrades and balconies.

A concrete road raised slightly above the endless paddy fields. Kids on their way home.

A side of french fries...

...and Pho, a traditional Vietnamese noodle dish, usually as a soup but can be dry Pho with dipping source.
Although there were cows, dairy was uncommon, milk usually condensed and cheese limited to tourist breakfast buffets.
We criss-crossed numerous railway lines but didn't see a train.
Ling, our 2nd cycle guide, took up the rear, forever patient, cool and a super strong cyclist. No English though!
Cattle blocked our way.

However, fortunately, Doug our veterinarian, spoke ICS (International Cow Speak) and was able to lead me to safety.
Away from the cities, there were many more cyclists.

Our destination, Quy Nhon and the Seagull Hotel.
Super room with a super view!
That evening, we'd enough of noodles, tofu and sticky rice and made a beeline for an Aussie Sports bar for burgers, chips and 2 bottles of Aussie Cabernet/Shiraz with Donna and Kim. Ah the comfort of a familiar diet!
A full Vietnamese veggie breakfast - also delicious!
